Whether you’re a spa-going massage regular, or it’s your first time even considering receiving therapeutic massage, there’s a few things you should know about how massage therapy can benefit you not just from a wellness perspective, but so much more.

There are many different types of massage therapies.

If you’re the kind of person who wants to show up, shut your eyes, and travel off to la-la land, our Signature 60- and 90-minute massage options offer a combination of relaxing, long Swedish massage strokes, accompanied by deeper pressure where needed. Common areas that typically need more attention from a massage therapist include the muscles of the neck, upper shoulders, and lower back. We welcome you to soak in the full experience by arriving at the KC Wellness Club at least 30-minutes prior to your service to enjoy a complimentary session in our sauna and steam bath rooms. Cuddle up in our signature (and incredibly comfortable) plush cozy robes while grounding and relaxing in our virtual reality meditation room. Or, burn off the stress with some stretching and light exercise in our fitness center.

For the more avid athlete, or someone wanting a deeper, therapeutic massage, a 60- or 90-minute deep tissue massage can achieve the desired results.

At the Kansas City Wellness Club, we also offer some incredibly unique offerings and enhancements to your massage experience, such as:

  • Reflexology.  For hands, feet, and ears, this ancient Chinese technique using pressure point massage helps to restore the flow of energy throughout the body. Reduce stress and tension and create a sense of well-being.

  • Aromatherapy.  Enjoy aromatic essential oils medicinally to improve the health of the body, mind, and spirit.

  • Sinus Relief.  Relieve pressure and congestion by assisting sinus drainage, preventive for infection.

  • Cupping.  Relieve muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair.

  • Hot Stones.  Penetrated heat through footstones or body stones for a deeper healing sensation.

You have permission to request what you are most comfortable with.

It is always important to let your massage therapist know if you encounter any painful areas, if you require special accommodations, and to generally provide feedback about your massage experience. Your massage therapist knows best how to treat the musculoskeletal issues we encounter daily from stress, poor sleep, etc. However, if the pressure feels too deep, not enough, too fast or too slow, please let your massage therapist know so that they can adjust to make the massage most enjoyable for you. Please also be sure to notify your massage therapist, and document on your intake form any relevant medical history, past injuries, underlying health conditions, etc.

Massage therapy impacts the entire body, including mental and emotional benefits.

While many people seek massage therapy for its relaxing and calming effects, massage can have a much deeper impact on the physical, mental and emotional aspects too. Whether it’s to recover tense muscles after an intense workout, rebooting from a stressful week, or purging emotional baggage we all tend to carry in the body, massage can be customized for desired effect. As the saying goes, “the issues are in the tissue.” We encourage all of our guests to disclose any non-physical issues to your therapist so that those concerns may be addressed with gentle compassion.

Some other types of massage therapy you may have heard about.

  • Craniosacral Therapy.  Blending a wide range of healing modalities, our holistic bodywork therapist gently unwinds the body using skilled myofascial release techniques to achieve craniosacral balancing, much like a massage for the brain and nervous system.

  • Prenatal Massage.  Can be a deeply restorative treatment for moms-to-be to help improve sleep, reduce stress and soothe muscle fatigue. Be sure to seek approval from your physician who can determine if prenatal massage is appropriate for you during pregnancy.

  • Lymphatic Massage.  This light, rhythmic massage technique has vast benefits for the immune system by working with your lymphatic system to detoxify and repair damaged tissues. You do not need to see a lymphatic massage specialist in order to experience the benefits of massage on the lymphatic and immune systems. Massage impacts all systems of the body.
